February 21, 2025 –

We are aware of an altercation that took place in the parking lot following the basketball game on Feb 14. This altercation is included in our current, ongoing investigation into events that took place that evening. The District is working with law enforcement to identify the individual involved, and will take appropriate action once the full details of the event are available.

February 18, 2025 –

We are still working to get a full picture of everything that took place at the basketball game Friday night, however we would like to let the community know that contact has been made with all parties involved and the district has followed policy regarding the incident, including:
2/15: Opened investigation into incident based on complaint received via email.
2/15: Phone conversation with parents of student.
2/15: Contact made with Commissioner for Salem Basketball Association regarding conduct of players during the basketball game.
2/16 & 2/17: Sheridan Superintendent consulted with Willamina Superintendent regarding District investigation
2/18: District exercised right to trespass an individual from district property.
Per the timeline established by policy, this remains an open investigation.
We remain committed to ensuring our schools are safe spaces for our students and our guests.

Members of the Sheridan & Willamina communities,
As superintendent, I am aware of reports of disturbing behavior during the Varsity Boys Basketball game on Friday, February 14.
Please be assured that I and the Sheridan School District strive to ensure everyone feels safe and welcome at our schools and events in our buildings. The matter is currently under investigation and I am taking this matter extremely seriously.
